A VicPD officer was attacked while patrolling a park in Vic West late Thursday night, police say, and they’re looking for a witness.

The officer was walking in Banfield Park at around 11:30 p.m. when he was “violently attacked by an unknown man,” VicPD said in a news release Friday.

He called for helped over his radio and several officers were dispatched to the area, but they couldn’t find the suspect, police said.

The officer was sent to hospital with what police called non-life threatening but potentially life-altering injuries.

Investigators are now looking for a witness who spoke with the officer before the attack.

She is described a 50-year-old woman with grey hair who appeared distraught.

Anyone with information or who recognizes the woman is asked to call police at 250-995-7654 extension 1 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
