Police in Victoria are warning the public after fishing lines were discovered along a staircase at a park in Victoria’s Burnside neighbourhood.

According to the Victoria Police Department, officers were assisting city bylaw officers in Cecelia Ravine Park when they came across semi-transparent fishing lines that had been set across a staircase at around  9 a.m. on Aug. 20.

The lines, which the police called “trip wires,” were about one to two feet off the ground and ran across the staircase and were tied to staircase poles on either side.

Additionally, VicPD said officers also located fishing line set at the same height between two trees in an area which led to the entrance to the Galloping Goose Trail.

Victoria police are now investigating and are asking anyone with information to contact them at 250-995-7654.
