A man has been charged with arson after a suspicious fire outside the Mustard Seed Street Church and Food Bank in Victoria on Wednesday.

At around 2:25 a.m. on Nov. 8, fire crews were called to the Mustard Seed for a blaze outside the building. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire. The Mustard Seed’s exterior cladding, including a cross, and the soffit was damaged. However, the fire did not go into the building. Some rubbish was also burned during the fire.

A suspect was identified during the police’s arson investigation. Michael Willman was found and arrested on Nov. 9. He has been charged with one count of arson damaging property. He is still in custody after a telebail hearing.  The investigation is ongoing.

According to Victoria police, there have been additional garbage bin fires in the city, but at this time, investigators have no information to suggest the fires are related.
