The Victoria Police Department has arrested an impaired driver who fled the scene of a collision on Thursday night.

According to police, officers were called by “several people” regarding a collision that had occurred at the intersection of Fairfield Road and Moss Street at approximately 6 p.m.

The incident involved three vehicles and after it happened, the driver responsible for causing the chain reaction collision refused to exit his vehicle and opted to drive away from the scene instead.

Witnesses were able to record a description of the driver, the vehicle and the license plate as the man fled the scene, passing that information over to police.

A short time later, officers located a man matching the description at a nearby address.

The man displayed clear signs of alcohol impairment and was arrested. He was transported to VicPD headquarters where he provided two breath samples which well exceeded the threshold for criminal impaired driving charges.

The man was released with a driving prohibition and recommended charges for failing to remain at the scene of an accident, and two Criminal Code of Canada charges for impaired driving.

As for the others involved in the crash, two occupants of one of the vehicles were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

If you have information about this incident and have not yet spoken to officers, please call the VicPD Report Desk at (250) 995-7654 extension 1.
