Victoria Mariners shortstop hopes to mirror beloved former Blue Jay

WATCH: Moving from Japan two years ago, Victoria Mariners shortstop Shuta Araki hopes to follow in the footsteps of a fellow countryman who captured the hearts of Canadian baseball fans.

While the food was the hardest part of adjusting to life in Canada, not all the food was bad, as pizza has become one of Shuta’s personal favourites.

There was transitions on the field as well, with a different style of play here in Canada compared to Japan.

Shuta hopes to continue improving his english, and chase his dream of playing in the majors one day.

For the Mariners, they’ll slot in Shuta as their leadoff hitter, hoping to lead them to a PBL Championship.
