Tributes continue to pour in for a Victoria area man who is missing and presumed dead following a hiking accident on the Oregon coast.

Joe Lescene and his wife Sarah were on an annual getaway when the 51-year old reportedly lost his footing while walking near a cliff known as the Devil’s Cauldron on Sunday.

He fell 240 meters or 800 feet to the ocean below.

Authorities in Oregon launched an extensive search by sea and in the air but could not find his body.

Fire crews did locate a backpack he was carrying in the water.

The search has been called off and authorities say Lescene is presumed dead.

“Sarah has lost her husband, soulmate and best friend, ” reads a message posted on a Gofundme page set up by friend Nancy Sheppard.

Lescene is survived by his wife and two daughters, Ofelia and Sofia.

The message goes on to say that because Lescene’s body has yet to be recovered, there will be delays in the financial support he arranged to be provided to his family.

“The delay may be lengthy and because of that we are asking for any support so that we can ease Sarah’s mind from financial burden and let her focus on grieving,” the message reads.

Lescene worked at CFB Esquimalt.

“Joe “The Man” was truly a one of a kind soul and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.”
