A 27-year-old Victoria man has been charged in the robbery of a downtown business that ended in a stabbing.

Victoria police say the man reportedly stole money from a store in the 1500-block of Vancouver Street on Monday shortly after 12 p.m. When he was confronted, police say he allegedly stabbed a staff member with a knife, then fled from the scene on foot.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives with Victoria police’s major crime unit and forensic identification services continued the investigation and identified a suspect. The following morning, on Tuesday, officers were able to track down the suspect in the 900 block of Pandora Avenue and arrest him without incident.

Blaine Isherwood, 27, has been charged with robbery and assault with a weapon, according to police.

Isherwood remains in custody as the investigation continues.

Victoria police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call their report desk at (250) 995-7654, ext. 1, or call the Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers to report anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
