Two Vancouver Island baseball clubs are planning on kicking off 2021 by holding a food drive.

Victoria HarbourCats and Nanaimo NightOwls will be holding a contactless drive-thru food drive called “Fill the RV” on Jan. 1.

The food drive, which is a partnership with Arbutus RV, will be held in both Victoria and Nanaimo from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m.

“Both events will be drive-thru in nature, with HarbourCats and NightOwls staff and volunteers on hand to take donations from cars, with minimal contact and in keeping with all health protocols in place at this time,” the clubs said in a press release.

Victoria’s food drive will be held at 3510 Blanshard while the Nanaimo food drive will take place at the Third Street baseball diamonds parking lot — by Rotary Field House — a block west of Serauxmen Stadium.

Food received in Victoria will be donated to Mustard Seed Street Church and Food Bank and food donations received in Nanaimo will be donated to Loaves and Fishes

“Let’s fill the RV in both cities to help those who need it most, as we find our way out of this pandemic,” said Jim Swanson, managing partner and general manager of both the Victoria HarbourCats and Nanaimo NightOwls, in a press release.
