Victoria Fire crews responded to help extract a worker at Point Hope Maritime who experienced a severe back spasm.

A worker at Point Hope Maritime experienced a severe back spasm that resulted in an emergency response team being activated to get her out of the confined area she was working.

Victoria Police was called to assist and says the worker was in a confined space that needed some additional rescue expertise.

Riccardo Regosa, general manager of Point Hope Maritime, tells CHEK News in an email statement that the shipyard’s emergency response team was activated to safely get her out of the location she was working.

The employee was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

“I have not heard yet regarding her medical assessment,” Regosa said in the email. “Backs are tricky and I am pleased that she took her symptoms seriously and proud of the professionalism of our emergency response team.”
