Victim expected to survive, one in custody after shooting in Lake Cowichan: RCMP

Police were at a Lake Cowichan home on South Shore Road on Jan. 29, 2024 following a shooting the night before.

A 52-year old is in custody after a 23-year old was shot in Lake Cowichan, according to RCMP.

Just before 11 p.m. on Jan. 28, police were called to a home on South Shore Road for a man who had been shot. RCMP, the Vancouver Island RCMP Emergency Response Unit and Police Dog Services responded and arrested the suspect without further incident.

The victim is being treated in hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.

“Investigators are now working diligently in order to piece together the circumstances prior that led up to the shooting, including the relation between the suspect and the victim,” Cpl. Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the RCMP said in a news release.
