Police in the West Shore say an alleged impaired driver has a date in court after crashing a pickup truck into a light pole in Langford.

Around 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, Mounties received “multiple reports” of the driver of a blue Dodge Ram pickup truck driving “erratically” near Florence Lake Road, according to West Shore RCMP in a news release Monday.

“Within minutes of the initial calls to police, the driver had collided with a light pole near the 3000 block of Leigh Road,” said police.

Officers responded to the scene, where the driver, a 29-year-old man, was suspected of being impaired by drugs and was arrested for dangerous operation and impaired driving of a motor vehicle.

“He was released by way of an Undertaking with an upcoming court date regarding dangerous and impaired driving as well as a 90-day driving prohibition,” added police.

The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle, noted RCMP. They say he suffered non-life-threatening injuries and received medical care.

“West Shore RCMP thanks the multiple witnesses who called police to report this dangerous driving right away,” said Cpl. Nancy Saggar with West Shore RCMP.

“We are continuing to investigate the additional reports received.”
