Victoria police are asking witnesses to come forward after racist graffiti appeared on a historical building in Chinatown over the weekend.

On June 5, a racist message was discovered on a white column in front of the Victoria Chinese Public School, located in the 600-block of Fisgard Street.

Victoria Police officers attended the scene and have been investigating the incident ever since, according to a media release issued by the department.

Allen Ma, Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association president, told CHEK News over the weekend that he found out about the incident on Saturday and that he and a colleague had to remove the graffiti themselves.

“It hurts that some people could do things like that,” Ma said about the incident.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 250-995-7654, and select option 1 for the report desk. To report anonymously, please call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
