The Victoria Police Department is investigating after a fatal, single-vehicle crash occurred in Vic West early Friday morning.
Just before 3 a.m., patrol officers were called to the corner of Skinner Street and Catherine Street in Esquimalt for a report of a vehicle crash. The car had hit a hydro pole and was reported to be on fire. Officers were told the only occupant in the vehicle was suffering from life-threatening injuries.
Police say nearby residents rushed to try and help the driver and were providing emergency first aid.
Officers took over emergency first aid until BC Emergency Health Services paramedics arrived and transported the driver to the hospital.
“Unfortunately, the driver succumbed to their injuries. Our thoughts are with their family today,” said the VicPD.
