Victoria police pulled a man alive out of the Inner Harbour after an hours-long search on Wednesday.

Police received a call around 4:20 p.m. reporting a person was in the water on the south side of the Johnson Street bridge and was in distress.

During the search, One VicPD officer attempted to look for the individual in the water underneath nearby docks for, according to police, a ‘significant amount of time’, and was also treated by ambulance paramedics for exposure to cold.

Three hours later, a man was successfully pulled out of the chilly waters around 7:20 p.m. and officers confirmed his identity as the same person last seen in distress in the water late Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities say the man pulled from the water was taken to hospital for what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries from cold exposure.

Members of Victoria Fire, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, and the Coast Guard also aided in the search.
