The Victoria Police Department has arrested a man suspected of breaking and entering after a brief foot chase early Friday morning.

In a Victoria police release issued Friday, police said that officers responded to a report of a break-in at a construction site around 3 a.m. The site of the break and enter is located at the 500-block of Michigan Street.

According to security who patrol the construction site and monitor it by cameras, a man was spotted on the CCTV system, which led to on-duty guards calling 911.

Patrol officers, along with VicPD K9, arrived on the scene, set up containment and began to search the site for the suspect.

While searching the premises, officers spotted the suspect, police say. According to police, officers called out to the man to stop, but he ran instead.

Police say the suspect climbed over a fence in an effort to escape on foot. Patrol officers pursued and were able to track the man down a short distance later.

He was taken into custody following the chase, police add.

According to the VicPD release, he has since been released on conditions pending a future court date and faces recommended charges for break and enter.

According to officers, no party was injured during the foot chase.
