A Vancouver Island Paralympic champion who also served as an Island MLA is among three new members of the Canadian Disability Hall of Fame.

At a ceremony in Toronto Friday, Parksville’s Michelle Stilwell was inducted in the ‘achiever’ category of the hall of fame.

Stilwell is one of Canada’s most decorated athletes, earning nine world championships and six Paralympic gold medals in wheelchair basketball and athletics.

Stilwell is also the only female Paralympic athlete to win gold in two separate summer sport events.

Away from competition, Stilwell served two terms as MLA for the Parksville-Qualicum riding, from 2013 to 2020. She’s also an active member of multiple national and international boards.
