A number of community infrastructure projects on Vancouver Island will receive a boost of funding from Ottawa.

The federal government, along with the province and Union of B.C. Municipalities announced 108 projects across B.C. have been approved, and four others conditionally approved, to get nearly $193 million dollars from the federal gas tax fund.

Total funding for Vancouver Island projects is close to $55 million.

A list of projects funded in the province can be found here.

Upgrades include work on drinking and waste-water facilities, recreation, sport and cultural infrastructure, roads and bridges, energy systems and disaster mitigation measures.

Some of the bigger recipients of funding include $6 million for a landfill diversion program for the Alberni Clayoquot Regional District and a swimming pool replacement in Port Hardy.

The Regional District of Nanaimo is getting that same figure to help complete the $81.7 million secondary treatment upgrade project at the Greater Nanaimo Pollution Control Centre.

Victoria has conditional approval for $6 million for the Crystal Pool replacement project.

The Cowichan Valley Regional District will receive $5.88 million for phase one of the Mill Bay wastewater integration project.

Another $3.8 million dollars has been conditionally approved for Nanaimo’s waterfront walkway project.
