The effort to replace the Crystal Pool and Wellness Centre is receiving $6 million dollars from the federal gas tax fund.

The funding got conditional approval that will go towards the total cost of $69.4 million to replace the facility with a new centre for all ages and abilities.

The contribution is based on the remaining balance being acquired within one year.

As part of Victoria’s climate action plan, the city says the new Crystal Pool facility will use energy-efficient technology.

The city is trying to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from community-owned facilities by more than 33 per cent.

Victoria has committed $10 million to the project.

The federal government provides $278 million in funding for infrastructure across B.C.  through the gas tax fund each year.
