A Vancouver Island resort has been crowned the country’s leading wilderness resort for 2023, according to industry group World Travel Awards (WTA).
The Clayoquot Wilderness Resort, located northeast of Tofino, was named the best wilderness resort in Canada by the WTA.
The resort is only accessible by floatplane, helicopter or boat, and guests stay in one of 25 “luxuriously appointed” white canvas tents.
The property also includes a spa, gourmet dining and wilderness excursions, like fly fishing, rock climbing and heli-adventures.

The Clayoquot Wilderness Resort was the only Island hotel to make the list of best accommodations in Canada.
However, several other Island hotels were named the best in the province, according to the WTA.
The Fairmont Empress in Victoria was ranked B.C.’s “leading business hotel” and the Long Beach Lodge Resort in Tofino was named B.C.’s “leading boutique hotel.”
The World Travel Awards also notes that Canada beat the U.S. for “North America’s Leading Destination” for 2023.
