With warm weather cropping up on Vancouver Island, Google Canada has released a list of trending summer vacation spots based on recent searches through its search engine.

While Vancouver Island is not one of the country’s overall most popular destinations for the summer, it was listed as the top trending “romantic getaway” destination in Canada.

According to Google Trends, Lake Cowichan, herring spawning and the West Coast Trail are among some of the most searched topics in the region as of Friday morning.

Music festivals and beaches were also among trending recent searches.

Overall, Google Canada says the top trending destinations in the country for a summer trip are Vancouver in the top spot, followed by Calgary, Toronto, Halifax and Montreal, respectively.

Globally, the top trending destinations for Canadians who are looking to book a summer trip using Google are:

  1. Paris, France
  2. London, United Kingdom
  3. Lisbon, Portugal
  4. Tokyo, Japan
  5. Rome, Italy

While Vancouver Island may be a popular destination for couples, people who are interested in travelling alone shouldn’t feel left out.

Google Canada says that interest in “solo travel” has been rising in Canada, with searches related to travelling alone hitting an all-time high in February.
