The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit has been called in, after a man was found dead on the 1400 block of Hillside Avenue.
Victoria police found the deceased man, identified by family and friends as Joe Gauthier, after responding to a disturbance call early Saturday.
Unconfirmed reports say he died as a result of a stabbing.
Victoria Police Chief Del Manak says there is no threat to the public.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit is asking witnesses to come forward. They can be reached by calling 250-380-6211, individuals can also call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
Hillside Avenue, between Belmont Road and Gosworth Avenue, was blocked off by Victoria police all day Saturday.
