The Caesar cocktail has become one of Canada’s signature drinks and a restaurant on Vancouver Island has a variation that is considered to be one of the best in the country.

Cow Café West Coast Grill — a waterfront establishment serving West Coast cuisine in Cowichan Bay — has had its “Coast-to-Coast Caesar” be labelled one of Canada’s top 10 best Caesars by Mott’s Clamato.

The Cow Café is the only British Columbia restaurant to be nominated for the award after receiving hundreds of online votes and accolades from Caesar fans.

The competition being carried out by Mott’s — entitled the Best Caesar in Town — invited 30 restaurants to submit video entries that explained the inspiration behind their Caesar and what makes it special.

In the video submitted by Cow Café for the Coast-to-Coast Caesar, owner and chef Matt Heyne delivered a “love letter to Canada,” suggesting that the country’s coastal bounty was what inspired the recipe.

“Being that the Caesar is Canada’s national drink, what better way to highlight Canada than have fresh products literally from one coast to the next?” asks Heyne, while searing East Coast scallops, skewering an Atlantic lobster tail alongside west coast prawns, and arranging thick chunks of salmon fresh from Port Alberni.

The search for the Best Caesar in Town began back in May and has since narrowed down to 10 finalists, which includes Cowichan Bay’s Cow Café West Coast Grill.

The quest to find the number one Caesar in the nation for 2021 is still on and in order for Cow Café to earn the title, Canadians and Vancouver Island must vote in support.

Caesar fans can click here in order to vote for the Coast-to-Coast Caesar. Voting will be open between July 8 and August 4 and one vote per day is allowed per IP address, according to the contest details.

The winning restaurant will receive $25,000 from Mott’s Clamato.

The winner and nine runners-up will be announced by Mott’s Canada on August 28.
