Nanaimo’s Maria Edmond has won the $500,000 Maximillions prize as part of the Lotto Max draw on June 15, 2021, a game she started playing only a few months ago.

One Island resident is half a million dollars richer after she scored big on a lottery prize from the BC Lottery Corporation (BCLC).

Nanaimo’s Maria Edmond has won the $500,000 Maximillions prize as part of the Lotto Max draw on June 15, 2021, a game she started playing only a few months ago.

“I’ve always bought Lotto 6/49, and then about three to four months ago I decided to try Lotto Max,” says Edmond. “The first ticket I bought I had won $40, and then won another $40 again after that.”

Edmond, who is currently retired and living in Nanaimo, purchased her winning Lotto Max ticket at Nanaimo North Town Centre and won on a Quick Pick.

With the new winnings, Edmond has plans to buy a new truck for her husband.

“His truck is 22 years old,” says Edmond. “A new truck was always in the conversation, and we’ll probably purchase a new RV to go camping as well. But [this win] won’t change my life much though, and it’ll give me peace of mind.”

BCLC says that so far in 2021, lottery players across the province have redeemed more than $84 million in winnings from Lotto Max.

According to the BC Lottery Corporation, Lotto Max is a nationwide lottery game drawn on Tuesdays and Fridays after 7:30 p.m. (PST). Players can purchase tickets at lottery retailers or at PlayNow.com.
