UVic students get a lesson in waste

New video shows UVic students how many paper coffee cups they use per day

University of Victoria students and staff are getting a dramatic illustration of the waste caused by paper cup use in a new video produced to highlight the problem.

The campaign is designed to make students aware that their coffee in a paper cup habit comes with a cost.

The amount of cups used daily at the university requires an entire tree to produce.

As well, students tend to throw the cups in the garbage instead of in recycling or composting containers.

Organizers are urging UVic to implement a campus wide cup share program,  place mugs in cafes and subsidize travel mugs for students in order to reduce paper cup waste.
