A man is dead after a horrific motorcycle crash south of Campbell River. Dean Stoltz has more.
Campbell River RCMP says a motorcyclist has died following a head-on collision with a dump truck Thursday morning.
Investigators say the man in his 50s was riding north on Highway 19A when he crossed the centre line and hit the truck at Heard Road.

After the initial impact, police say the southbound dump truck lost its steering, crossed into oncoming traffic and flipped over before hitting a hydro pole.
Authorities say the truck driver was not hurt but is shaken.

The crash closed the Old Island Highway at Heard Road until about 3:30 p.m. while investigators worked to determine the cause of the crash. The highway is now open.
The coroner was at the scene, along with highway crews that were diverting traffic.

BC Hydro personnel were called in to help with power lines.
