Two Victoria facilities, one secondary school and one elementary school, have been added to Island Health’s COVID-19 exposure list.

Parents, students and staff of Belmont Secondary School and Oaklands Elementary School are being cautioned about possible exposures to the coronavirus in the previous week.

Belmont Secondary — located at 3041 Langford Lake Rd — experienced a COVID-19 exposure on April 1.

Oaklands Elementary School — located at 2827 Belmont Avenue — experienced COVID-19 exposures on March 29-31.

There are currently eight total facilities that have been added to Island Health’s Exposures in Schools list as the province faces surging case numbers and concerns over the spread of COVID-19 variants.

Over the weekend, exposures were reported at Kwalikum Secondary School in Qualicum Beach, Dunsmuir Middle School in Colwood and Nanaimo District Secondary School.

Island Health has warned students, parents and staff to expect rising school exposures in the coming weeks due to a surge in COVID-19 cases over spring break.

An exposure is defined by Island Health as a single person with a lab-confirmed COVID-19 infection who attended school during their infectious period.
