Caught on video: Daylight shooting in Nanaimo leaves two suffering from serious injuries

Two people are suffering from serious injury in the wake of a daytime shooting at a residence in Nanaimo, according to RCMP.

Police say that the incident took place just after 10:30 a.m. on January 28 in the 200-block of Needham Street in Nanaimo. At the same time, a neighbours surveillance camera captured a silver SUV pull up to the house, and three men exit the vehicle, wearing masks.

“I think they were here to collect something or something of that nature because there were three guys come out of that vehicle with masks…and you could tell they were up to something nasty,” said neighbour Rick Grant.

Officers received a report of a possible shooting and immediately attended the scene where they found several individuals inside the residence.

One man was suffering from a firearm injury while another was suffering from what appeared to be assault.

Others in the residence were also suffering from the lasting effects of being bear sprayed, add police.

“The Nanaimo RCMP strongly suspect that the suspects and the victims are known to each other, and there is no threat to the public at this time,” said Sergeant Chris Manseau, media relations officer for the BC RCMP.

“Investigators are currently conducting statements and speaking with neighbours, canvassing for eyewitnesses and possible video surveillance.”

The Nanaimo RCMP Serious Crimes Unit has taken control of the investigation.

Although the investigation is still in the early stages, initial indications are that the shooting was targeted.

Anyone with information or possible dash cam footage of the area from this morning is being asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
