A crash on the Old Island Highway in downtown Campbell River Sunday
A head-on crash that left debris scattered across the road closed part of the Old Island Highway (19A) in downtown Campbell River for several hours Sunday afternoon.
It took place before 1 p.m. and closed Highway 19A at St. Anne’s Road.
Two people were taken to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say it appears a black Nissan Altima was making a right-hand turn on the road as it heads to the ferry terminal when it crossed the centre line hitting a black Mazda.
The Nissan then spun around hitting a blue pick up truck.
Investigators say it’s extremely lucky no one was more seriously hurt.
Both speed and alcohol are being investigated as possible factors in the crash.
