Two drivers got their week off to a dangerous start by driving well above the speed limit on the Pat Bay Highway, according to Sidney/North Saanich RCMP.

In the early morning of Oct. 22, a driver was caught driving 145 kilometres per hour in a 90-speed limit zone, then the next day another driver was caught driving at 144 km/h in a 90 zone.

Both drivers have been charged under the Motor Vehicle Act and both vehicles were impounded for seven days.

“Police would like to take this opportunity to encourage the motoring public to follow prescribed traffic laws and be mindful of changing road conditions,” RCMP said in a release. “With the onset of fall weather a collision with these types of observed speeds would prove catastrophic.”
