Victoria City Hall hosted its first wedding ceremony on Friday and, fittingly enough, the bride and groom are both City of Victoria employees.

Paula Ronald works in Building Service and John Ehses, a 25-year employee, in the Engineering and Public Works department.

The couple met at work.

Unlike many other City Halls across Canada, Victoria City Hall has not been available for weddings in the past.

This year, a new public use policy is in place that will see weddings held on select days.

As a trial year, those dates are May 20th, August 19th and December 16th.

Because of legislation differences between British Columbia and some other provinces, couples are required to hire an independent marriage commissioner to oversee the wedding.
