Two BC Ferries sailings have been cancelled after a mechanical issue with one of its boats caused delays.

BC Ferries tweeted a service notice Friday morning that the Queen of Alberni, sailing from Twassessen to Duke Point, was “holding in dock” at the Tsawwassen terminal while they tried to fix an issue with one of its engines.

It later tweeted the 10:15 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. sailings had to be cancelled because of the mechanical issue.

They say the ferry will resume service for the 3:15 p.m. sailing leaving Tsawwassen.

According to a service notice, customers with reservations will have bookings cancelled and fees refunded and travel will be a first come, first served system.

BC Ferries says different routes to Swarts Bay or Departure Bay are recommended because of high traffic volumes.
