There’s a new playground in the Saanich Peninsula.

Late last month the District of Central Saanich officially installed a brand new “treehouse-themed” playground at Tanner Park, a small green space located on Rodolph Road, according to a recent press release.

The playground is designed for those ages 2 to 12 and features a disk swing and ground-level play and an accessible pathway.

“Whenever I speak with the children in our community, parks are the top of their wish list,” District of Central Saanich Mayor Ryan Windsor, said in a press release, adding. “This park has been slated for a playground for a number of years, and this is great timing as this neighbourhood has had a recent influx of young families.”

The playground’s design was chosen earlier this year after the District of Central Saanich encouraged children to vote on two proposed designs.

“Celebrating the opening of Tanner Park has sure brought a lot of joy to this community,” added Central Saanich resident Emily Holfeld. “With the last couple years marked with uncertainty for these kids, it’s such a gift to be able to see their faces light up to do what they do best— play. We’re so grateful to the municipality for investing in this safe and hope filled spot.”

A picnic table at the park is expected to be installed at the park in the coming weeks, according to Central Saanich.
