The Saanich Police Department and Saanich Fire Department are currently responding to reports of a gas leak along Douglas Street.

The Saanich Police Department and Saanich Fire Department are currently responding to reports of a gas leak along Douglas Street.

In a notice sent out by Saanich Police, officers say that the reported leak is in the 3300 block of Douglas St and, due to the authorities’ response, traffic is being impacted.

Police say that the northbound lanes from Cloverdale Avenue and Audley Street will be closed to all traffic for approximately four hours on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Saanich PD, the southbound lanes on Douglas Street will remain open, however, officers are recommending vehicles and pedestrians avoid the area if possible.

No further information has been provided about the gas leak or what may have caused it.

Police add that an update will be provided once the 3300 block of Douglas Street is reopened to traffic.
