The British Columbia Lottery Corporation said the $1-million Lotto 6/49 ticket that was purchased in Victoria last January was not claimed by Thursday’s deadline.
The winning Lotto 6/49 ticket was bought on Jan. 3, 2018, and the winner had until 4:30 p.m. today to claim the money. The ticket was an exact match for a 10-digit number.
All unclaimed prize money from national games, including 6/49, goes to future bonus games or promotions and is managed by the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation. Unclaimed prizes from British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC)-operated games, such as BC/49, go back to the provincial government.
According to BCLC, in the past 10 years (not including this ticket), $5.2 million has gone unclaimed in the province. That includes four million-dollar tickets: two Lotto Max Maxmillion prizes and two Lotto 6/49 prizes of a million each. Most unclaimed tickets are for small amounts or free tickets.
Since no one claimed the prize, BCLC will not release the name of the place where the ticket was bought.
