A man escaped uninjured after a part of a large tree fell onto his parked car on McAdoo Place in Saanich during heavy rain Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the area at around 3:45 p.m. after a massive tree came crashing down in the yard of Fred Gracia’s family home. Some branches hit his car.

“Bang, the tree came down and hit the top of the roof and glass shattered all over me,” Fred said.

“Me and my wife were going to go out and I was just waiting for her. She’s lucky. She was ready to come out when the tree came down.”

Fred said he was shaken up but is not hurt. His wife ran out to see what happened and Fred said he was able to slowly get out of the car.

He also noted that the sound was so loud, the neighbours thought it was an earthquake.

Part of the tree also landed on top of a fence in the yard and damaged toys. Fred said the car has shattered glass in the front and the back, and the roof was also damaged.
