Thousands are without power in Greater Victoria.
More than 6,000 BC Hydro customers in Esquimalt, Saanich, Victoria and View Royal are dealing with the outage, according to an outage list Monday.
The power went out around 2:20 p.m., and BC Hydro says crews have been assigned to get it restored.
The cause is under investigation.
The outage comes amid fall weather with winds in Greater Victoria gusting 30-50 km/h, according to Environment Canada. It says the rain should end late Monday afternoon, then mainly cloudy skies with a risk of thunderstorms.
South of the border, the National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for parts of Washington state, including Battle Ground, Barberton and Hockinson. It said more than 70,000 people and 20 schools were in the potential exposure area.
