Thompson’s gutsy effort lifts Grizzlies to home opener victory

WATCH: 24 hours prior to the Victoria Grizzlies home opener, Cam Thompson was sitting in the hospital. Fast forward to Saturday night, and Thompson nets two goals to lift the Grizzlies over the Penticton Vees by a score of 4-3.

Thompson was experiencing dizziness and blurred vision on Friday, and did not make the trip on the team bus up to Port Alberni, opting to stay in Victoria to go see a doctor.

With a good rest and game day preparation, Thompson returned to the Grizzlies top line for their home opener, and scored two key goals in the win.

The night also marked the retirement of Jamie and Jordie Benn’s jerseys into the Q Centre rafters, becoming the first players in Grizzlies franchise history to have their numbers raised to the rafters.

The Grizzlies now head to the mainland for the BCHL showcase in Chilliwack.
