A wayward piece of fried chicken is being blamed for a crash that left a man’s car seriously damaged in B.C.’s Interior last week.

Mounties with the Trail and Greater District RCMP say they were called to a single-vehicle crash along Highway 3 near Rossland around 3 p.m. on April 7.

When an officer arrived, they found a man inside a vehicle that had crashed into a concrete barrier.

When asked about the crash, the man reportedly told police that he had veered off the road as he “reached for a piece of fried chicken.”

The driver told police that he was uninjured in the crash, but the car itself had serious front end damage and needed to be towed from the scene.

Mounties are using the crash as a reminder to focus on the road.

“This bite of chicken could have been deadly,” said Mike Wicentowich with the Trail and Greater District RCMP in a release on April 9.

“Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of fatal incidents on our highways in B.C.,” he said. “Please stay focused on driving and leave the chicken dinner at home.”

Police say the man’s car insurance appeared to be expired, so he was issued a $598 fine for driving with no insurance.
