The mayor of Tahsis on Vancouver Island, Jude Schooner, has passed away after she suffered a cardiac arrest while at home Friday night.
She served as mayor of the small community for the last decade, after being elected for the first time in 2008.
Just a few days ago, she announced she was stepping down in April due to ongoing health concerns related to a serious car accident she was in last March.
Schooner is being remembered for forging strong relationships with first nations, forest companies and the provincial government.
