Suspected thief in Colwood finds himself in the spotlight after being caught on camera

CHEK

West Shore RCMP are still looking for a brazen thief who — thanks to security camera video — has become a social media sensation.

The whole caper played out at Dave Healy’s Sooke Road home in Colwood last Friday morning.

Nobody was at home at the time but the suspect wanted to make sure, checking the front door, and then going around the house to the back door.

You can see the man go into the backyard and uncover the wood chipper, valued at about $1800 and roll it away.

A blue pick up truck appears to become stuck for a time, but eventually the truck, the thief and the wood chipper disappear.

“I was pretty ticked off about it because somebody actually came into my house and you can see how brazen they were on checking the front door and then going to the back,” said Dave Healy.

“I’m just glad my wife wasn’t home cause it would have scared her a lot.”

Healy says RCMP received a number of tips already but that no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to call West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.
