A Victoria-based singer has made it to the big screen thanks to her song that’s included on the soundtrack for the new Hunger Games prequel film, which is currently number one at the North American box office.
Bella White’s song Burn Me Once is on the soundtrack for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, which was released to theatres in Canada on Nov. 17, 2023, and has grossed nearly $200 million globally.
“Burn me once, shame on you,” sings White in the chorus. Along with lending her voice, she wrote the song, which is the ninth on the soundtrack and is three minutes and 20 seconds long.
“I’m super happy to share with y’all that a song I wrote a while back is part of the soundtrack for The Hunger Games movie Songbirds & Snakes,” wrote White in an Instagram post earlier this month. “So many other sweet artists are involved.”
Several other artists, including Olivia Rodrigo, Rachel Zegler and Flatland Cavalry, are also featured on the new Hunger Games soundtrack, which peaked at number 10 on the UK Compilation Albums chart. The track listing includes 17 songs.
White, 22, hails from Calgary, Alta. and is also a multi-instrumentalist who “grew up on the classic country and old-time music she first discovered thanks to her father, a Virginia native who played in bluegrass bands…” reads her bio.
The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, the fifth film in the Hunger Games series, is based on Suzanne Collins’ dystopian action-adventure novel of the same name.
Together, the films have grossed more than 3.1 billion worldwide.
