Blake and Marla Handley are laughing after their stuffed dog Rory was "rescued" from the backseat of their car

Blake and Marla Handley are laughing after their stuffed dog Rory was “rescued” from the back seat of their car.

Any pup would be grateful for being rescued from the backseat of a car on a hot summer’s day.

Rory on the other hand didn’t really notice after a couple smashed the window of his owner’s car on Wednesday, because he’s just a stuffed toy.

“People said “did you see what happened to your car” and I looked at the back and the window was out,” said one of Rory’s owners Blake Handley.

“When we first looked at the window we thought “oh no they stole Rory!””

“Their heart was in the right place,” said Blakes wife Marla.

The couple was parked by the Delta Hotel in Victoria for an SPCA recognition ceremony, as Marla is a longtime donator.

The couple who broke the window said they tried to shake the car and set off the alarm, and then resorted to smashing the window after contacting police.

“He has been in the car with us for about 18-years and we have real dogs at home but they are not allowed in the car,” said Blake. “He is our patron dog for riding around.”

The couple responsible remained at the vehicle to let the Handley’s know about their mistake. Blake and Marla went to ICBC and now have to pay $200 for the window replacement.

“It was people doing the right thing for the wrong reason,” added Blake.

“We have [now] put tags on him saying he is not a real dog,” said Marla.
