Stella Artois says a flaw with some of their bottles has sparked a recall of beer packaged in 330-millilitre containers as a safety precaution.

The company says the problems could cause a small piece of glass to break and possibly fall into the beer.

Stella Artois did not identify which supplier manufactured the faulty bottles.

The recall is for packages of six, 12, 18 and 24 Stella Artois bottles and the “Best of Belgium” multi-packs sold in Canada and the United States.

The company says packages that are affected have package codes of 49, 52 or 55 and best-before dates ranging from Feb. 20, 2018, to Sept. 26, 2018, in Canada.

Other Stella Artois packaging formats such as cans or bottles with other production codes are not affected.

Stella Artois says consumers can return packages covered by the warning to get their money back and it is working with distributors and retailers to have packages that could be affected removed from stores.
