It’s been a black hole in the community for more than two years, but this summer the centre that brings space to us here on earth is back in business.

“We went down to practically zero revenue for about two years, so that was a really big obstacle, so we need to build that back up again,” said Laurie Roche who is on the board of Friends Of The Dominion Astrophysical Observatory which runs the centre.

Like many businesses, they closed their doors to the public because of the pandemic. But after two quiet years of virtual tours, stargazing is back.

“We are really happy to say that we’re open during the day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. from Tuesdays to Fridays,” said Roche.

You can catch the giant Plaskett telescope in person, and experience space interactively through virtual reality. On Saturday nights only, stargazing is open to the public, free through Eventbrite.

“Please come up, we’d love to have you,” added Roche. “There’s so much space and astronomy and engineering out there and we just want to bring it to everybody.”
