A newly launched VicPD project to return stolen bicycles to their rightful owners is already paying dividends.

VicPD says five owners were reunited with their bikes in the first 24-hours after the project made its debut on Monday.

A number of suspected stolen bikes have also been seized pending further investigation.

Photos of the recovered suspected stolen bicycles are being posted daily to the local Victoria Stolen Bicycle Avengers Facebook Page.

Officers believe that some bicycles have been recovered without their rightful owners even knowing that they are missing.

Earlier, VicPD launched a Bike Registry to help combat rising numbers of stolen bicycle reports and low returns of seized bicycles.

You can learn more about the Bike Registry and download a registration form by visiting vicpd.ca/bike.
