Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for Greater Victoria, and a special weather statement for west Vancouver Island and southern Gulf Islands.
A cold front will be sweeping across the B.C. Coast late this evening, possibly bringing winds up to 70 km/h around midnight.
Following the front winds with gusts up to 90 km/h could occur in Greater Victoria, and gusts of 80 km/h in the other areas before Sunday morning.
The winds are expected to ease by midday Sunday.
The agency says damage to buildings such as to roof shingles and windows may occur and that high winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.
