Sattva Spa was damaged by fire when the Plaza Hotel burned down in May, and Spa owner Heidi Sherwood says it will close permanently as a result.

Sattva Spa announced on Saturday that it would be permanently closing after it was damaged during the Plaza Hotel Fire in May.

“Initially we thought it would be a year to two years based on the amount of damage done to the building both structurally and then of course inside due to water damage,” said Sattva Spa owner Heidi Sherwood. “But now looking at the amount of damage, the concern about the structural integrity of the building, it looks like it could be three to five years at least. And those are just estimates at this time, there’s no guarantee, it could be longer.”

Sherwood said that the length of the closure is a major factor in the decision to close the business. She added that customers and clients will have an opportunity to use existing gift certificates at Sattva Spa’s sister location, Sapphire Day Spa.

Sherwood said that some of her employees will continue to find work at Sapphire Day Spa as well. “Many of them are working at our sister location on View St.,” Sherwood said. “They’ve been working there since the closure, and many of them are going to be staying on with the team, which makes me so incredibly grateful.”

Sherwood said that despite the circumstances, she is thankful to the community and her clients for their support. “We just also want to take an opportunity to thank everyone, to thank our clients, to thank the community members and our business partners,” Sherwood said.
