Two crashes resulted in lane closures along the Pat Bay Highway Tuesday afternoon, says Saanich Police.

One southbound lane has reopened after both were closed from Sayward Road to Claremont Avenue, close to Elk Lake, according to police in an update at 4:10 p.m.

They say both northbound lanes are open after one was closed.

In a previous tweet, police said they were responding to the crashes, which were near each other. “Injuries as a result of both crashes are minor,” said police.

They tell CHEK News that both incidents are under investigation.

One commuter travelling from Swartz Bay to Victoria said they “haven’t seen traffic like this” before, as a DriveBC cam showed the southbound traffic jam.

Earlier Tuesday, around 11:40 a.m., West Shore RCMP responded to a single-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway near the Helmcken off-ramp in View Royal.

“Southbound traffic is down to (one) lane for the next little bit as police and other emergency personnel attend the scene,” Mounties said at the time.
