Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for East Vancouver Island on Saturday.

Five to 10 centimetres of snow is expected to fall on the east side of the Island from Fanny Bay to Campbell River.

While the snow may mix with rain in lower elevations, Environment Canada warns that higher elevations should expect snow in the afternoon, and from midnight through to Sunday..

“The snowfall accumulation will be highly variable and dependent on precipitation rate and temperature,” said the weather office in its alert Saturday.

“Current forecast guidance suggests the potential for at least five cm of snow with up to 10 cm if there is a prolonged line of flurries occurring over the same area.”

Environment Canada is warning drivers to prepare for quickly changing travel conditions.

“If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance,” said the weather office.
