A small wildfire near Cameron Lake is currently being held at 0.72 hectares.

By Wednesday afternoon, the fire was estimated to be 0.72 hectares and is burning on the north side of the lake near Mount Horne. The fire is located on Island Timberlands land and was first reported Tuesday night.

Dorthe Jakobsen, an information assistant with the Coastal Fire Centre, said two helicopters were sent to the area to put water on the fire. The helicopters have finished their work. There are nine firefighters and a water fire at the blaze.

“The fire is putting out lots of visible smoke,” Jakobsen said.

The cause of the fire is unknown. Island Timberlands is expected to bring in contract workers to help BC Wildfire crews.
